Chelsea were formed in 1905 and elected to the Second Division almost immediately, winning promotion to First Division two years later. Chelsea have been in Top Flight since 1989-90 and broke the grip of Manchester United and Arsenal on Premier League championship honours by winning the crown thrice since 2004-05, including a league and cup double in 2009-10. Chelsea were clear winners of the title in 2016-17, losing out on a quest for the league and F.A. Cup double after being overwhelmed by London rivals Arsenal. Winning the F.A. Cup the following season, Chelsea have since lost three League Cup finals and three successive F.A. Cup finals.
